Woman King

I picked up Iron & Wine's Woman King this week and have been enjoying it a great deal. Here's what Josh Gibbs had to say about it a while back.

I do have one question, though: Isn't a woman king called a queen? I don't mean to be nitpicky or chauvinistic; in fact, I've often wondered how much these sort of distinctions (woman deacon / deaconess, woman priest / priestess) matter in our non-inflected tongue. But I wonder what he's trying to convey with "woman king" that "queen" doesn't express. Maybe it's just that "woman king" sounds stronger and cooler. I mean, an album named Queen would sound pretty gay and 80s. I don't know, though. Any thoughts?

American Idol

I must admit to being disappointed in last night's outcome. Carrie bored me out of my mind all season long. Bo was a much better singer and performer. It's a crying shame really. Regardless, I'm sure he'll end up with a record deal. And perhaps an added bonus: he won't have the title of "American Idol" following him around forever.

By the way, did anyone else notice Bo's transformation over the weeks? He had the whole Jesus look going on.

Posting Elsewhere

I haven't had much time to blog lately, and what time I've had has been spent posting elsewhere. Specifically, we've had some good conversations lately on our theology pintnight group (messages). I also try to keep up with the bibhorizon group, which in itself is like a part-time job!

The Newest of News

I went in for another ultrasound today and (surprise, surprise) we're having another boy. Pretty soon we're going to have our own army over here. Everything appears to be right on track...no missing limbs or anything. The only concern is that I might have marginal placenta previa. It's still early to make a diagnosis but it's something the doctor needs to keep an eye on. Basically, the placenta is slightly covering the cervical opening which would make it difficult for the baby to pass through in delivery. I should find out at 28 weeks if previa has developed or not (I'm around 17 weeks right now). Please keep us in your prayers.
