Thanks to Chad Toney's comment on Matt Yonke's blog, I read Scot McKnight's JETS article, "From Wheaton to Rome: Why Evangelicals Become Roman Catholic" [link to PDF] yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Work Update 2

Well, I didn't get the promotion, and I'm honestly more relieved than disappointed. For a couple weeks I've been telling friends & family that if I were our district manager, I wouldn't hire me simply because we're down to six people on staff (including me) and promoting me wouldn't solve the immediate problem of our needing more warm bodies. Anyway, turns out a senior manager - currently over multiple FedEx Kinko's Ship Centers in New York with several years in FedEx leadership/management - wanted to move back to Louisiana, so he's transferring into the (for him, slightly lower) position here. He's supposed to start in late September or early October, so hopefully in two or three months my life will be simpler and back to "normal" again.

Work Update

About a month ago, my boss came back from vacation and told me he was taking another job - he told me on a Tuesday that his last day would be that Friday. I knew he had applied for another job with FedEx (as the local FedEx account exec; he applied at the recommendation of the outgoing account exec kind of on a lark), but after a couple interviews, he was certain he hadn't gotten the job. Guess that says something about bad interviews. Anyway, this all came about a week after one of our tenured team members - Hollie's brother, Reuben - took another job (as a FedEx Express courier), but at least we had a month's notice in his case.

So I've had my work cut out for me lately - still do - as interim manager over a small straggling team, but it's been rewarding. I've applied for the position of manager, and whether or not I get it, it's win-win for me. If I get the position I'll work more initially but our income will nearly double, and eventually, if God blesses and I manage well, I should be able to work less, finish school, and start seminary. If I don't get the position I'll have more time to play with my kids and finish school, and my experience as interim manager will put me in a good position once I'm done with school and, say, ready to move to a city where there's a management opening and a good seminary. Still, I'd appreciate your prayers.

UK Universities Map

When I was first in college and looking into / dreaming of grad school abroad, this was one of my favorite pages. I ran across it again tonight while "thumbing" through a folder of old bookmarks.
