The Believer Magazine
Anybody ever read The Believer, the monthly magazine affiliated with McSweeney's? I ran across it for the first time the other day searching for reviews of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. (See the first two paragraphs of The Believer's review here.) Their "About" page alone tempts me to subscribe.

Tom Waits
This morning I woke up and felt like listening to Tom Waits. I just have his Small Change album, but I've been told it's his best anyway, cover photo notwithstanding. Whatever the case, it's hard to beat "Step Right Up" [lyrics; Amazon sample] and "The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me)" [lyrics; Amazon sample]. Special thanks to Kilgore Trout for introducing me to this album ten years ago and to Deacon Blues for giving me a copy last year.
